Early Career Proposals. One year funding proposals (with option of second year) within one of six categories including: Learning in Formal and Informal Environments, Leader Development, Personnel Testing and Performance, Organizational Effectiveness, Culture, Individual Differences. Principal Investigator's must have received their Ph.D. within five years of the time of proposal submission, and not previously received funding from ARI as a PI. Initial budgets should be approximately $110K. Both single-investigator and collaborative research efforts are encouraged.

Academic Pediatric Association Young Investigator Awards (multiple)


The program provides awards up to $15,000 for research by fellows or junior faculty related to child health promotion, health services research, teaching, or patient care. Projects must be consistent with the goals of the APA; preference is given to projects that have the potential to lead to further studies. The categories include: APA Young Investigator Program, APA Bright Futures Young Investigator Program supported by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau in Partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics, APA Young Investigator Award Program for Primary Care Strategies for the Promotion of Early Literacy and School Readiness Supported by Reach Out and Read, and Nutrition in Underserved Communities Young Investigator Award Program.

Searle Scholars Program


The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to selected academic institutions to support the independent research of outstanding early-career scientists who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment. Grants are $300,000 for a three-year term with $100,000 payable each year of the grant, subject to the receipt of acceptable progress reports. Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics


The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. Each year around three Greenwall Faculty Scholars are selected to receive 50 percent salary support for three years to enable them to develop their research program. Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Research Initiation Initiative (CRII)


With the goal of encouraging research independence immediately upon obtaining one's first academic position after receipt of the PhD, the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) will award grants to initiate the course of one's independent research. Understanding the critical role of establishing that independence early in one's career, it is expected that funds will be used to support untenured faculty or research scientists (or equivalent) in their first three years in a primary academic position after the PhD, but not more than a total of five years after completion of their PhD.

Application deadline the second Wednesday of August annually.

Beckman Young Investigators (BYI) Program


Open to those within the first three years of a tenure-track position, or an equivalent independent research appointment, in an academic or non-profit institution that conducts research in the chemical and life sciences. No individual may apply for an award more than two times.

Career Catalyst Research Grants (CCR)


Komen Training and Career Development awards seek to bridge the funding gap faced by recently graduated PhDs and early faculty as they start their careers in breast cancer research. $450,000 combined direct and indirect costs; ($150,000 per year for up to 3 years). The types of mechanisms and the scientific focus areas may vary from year to year.

ONR Young Investigator Program (YIP)


YIP seeks to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first or second full-time, tenure-track, or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. Proposals may request up to $170,000 per year for 3 years. Additional funds for capital equipment which enhances the Young Investigator's proposed research may be requested for the first budget period based on the needs of the research.

Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER)


CAREER: The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Early career is defined as tenure-track (or equivalent) Assistant Professor (or equivalent) with funding available for five years at a minimum of $400,000 to $500,000 depending on Directorate. Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award


The initial award will be for two years, $200,000 per year ($400,000 total) with the opportunity for up to two additional years of funding (up to four years total for $800,000). Continued support for years three and four will be granted to those awardees who demonstrate significant progress on their proposed research during years one and two of the award. Joint submission from collaborators working in different disciplines will be considered.
