Microscopy Shared Resource

The Microscopy Shared Resource (MSR) is located at the UA Cancer Center, servicing the immediate needs and future demands of biomedical and translational researchers. The MSR provides several advanced instruments and services for all UA researchers, including confocal microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, slide scanning, live cell imaging, multiphoton and intravital imaging, advanced image analysis, and much more. In addition to providing advanced instrumentation and imaging services, the core facility is a model of academic collaboration. MSR provides a space for on-site workshops, imaging seminars highlighting cutting-edge imaging approaches, demonstrations of next components/instruments, and support to the broader imaging community by building an “imaging culture” on campus.

Arizona LaserChron Center

The Arizona LaserChron Center is an NSF Community Facility that is designed to address problems in Earth Science through the generation of U-Th-Pb geochronologic data and complementary geochemical information by Laser Ablation ICP Mass Spectrometry. The main instruments utilized at the Arizona LaserChron Center include a Nu Plasma multicollector ICPMS, a Thermo Element2 single-collector ICPMS, a Teledyne Iridia laser and two Analyte G2 lasers, and a Hitachi 3400N SEM, all of which are dedicated to ALC research. These instruments were acquired with support from the University of Arizona, the National Science Foundation, and ExxonMobil Upstream Research.

Biomedical Imaging Core (Phoenix)

The Biomedical Imaging Core offers leading edge multiphoton and confocal microscopy for biomedical imaging and data collection. Conveniently located on the downtown Phoenix Biomedical Campus at the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix, the core is designed to be a community-based resource available to UA affiliated and non-affiliated faculty and researchers.

Imaging Cores - Optical (Marley & Life Sciences North)

We provide access, training, and ongoing support for users of a wide range of optical (light) microscopes. From stereo and widefield microscopes to more advanced techniques like confocal, multiphoton and superresolution, the facility and the managers are available to provide technical support and consultation to advance scientific inquiry and aid in experimental design.

Imaging Cores - Electron (Life Sciences North)

The core facility is a full service lab providing access to advanced expertise in Biological Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) related research, from consultation to imaging service and training to faculty, scientists and students on campus, external research institutions and industrial community.

We receive previously fixed samples, prepare them for TEM, negative staining and immunoelectron microscopy techniques, and perform ultramicrotomy, digital imaging and interpretation of results. Support is also available in planning for future electron microscopy experiments, writing grants, publications, and collaborations.
