Radiation Safety Training

Registering for a Course

University of Arizona Faculty, Staff, Students, Affiliates, and Designated Campus Colleagues

The Approval Holder (AH) or Approval Safety Coordinator (ASC) must request individuals to be added to their lab by sending an invitation thru the RLSS User Dashboard or send an email to rlss-rad-support@email.arizona.edu or rlss-help@email.arizona.edu with the following information:

  • Worker’s Legal Name
  • Official work email address
  • Approval Name and Number

The worker, AH, and ASC will be notified of their status throughout the process.

Requesting Accommodations for a Disability

Online Courses

 

Laser Radiation Protection Course (LRPC)

Laser Radiation Protection Course (LRPC) is required for personnel working with regulated lasers (Class 3b and 4). The Laser Radiation Protection Guide is available for download.

 This course is available thru EDGE Learning

 

Imaging Laser Protection Course (ILPC)

The Imaging Laser Protection Course (ILPC) is required for personnel working with confocal microscopes and similar equipment.

This course is available thru EDGE Learning.

 

University Animal Care Fluoroscopy Course

The University Animal Fluoroscopy Protection Course is required for University Research Laboratory Personnel and visitors who will participate in University Animal Care (UAC) procedures requiring fluoroscopy or radiography. The course is not required for Medical personnel with up-to-date in-service training and dosimetry.

Live Courses

 

Gamma Irradiator Protection Course

The Gamma Irradiator Protection Course is required for all personnel who require unescorted access to gamma irradiator facilities.

The course is available upon request. Please contact Research Laboratory & Safety Services at (520) 626-6850 or rlss-rad-support@email.arizona.edu to schedule training.

Registration for this course occurs after a prospective user has been deemed Trustworthy & Reliable (T & R) by Research Laboratory & Safety Services. Contact Research Laboratory & Safety Services to begin the T & R process. The Gamma Irradiator Protection Reference Guide is available for download.

 

Moisture Gauge Protection Course

The Moisture Gauge Protection Course is required for all research personnel working with neutron moderation technique counting devices such as a soil moisture gauge, soil density gauge, or rooftop surface hydration probe.

The Moisture Gauge Protection Course is available upon request. Please contact Research Laboratory & Safety services at (520) 626-6850 or rlss-rad-support@email.arizona.edu to schedule a training session. The Moisture Guage Protection Reference Guide is available for download.

 

Radioactive Material Protection Course

The Radioactive Material Protection Course is required for all research personnel working with 'free' or 'unsealed' radioactive materials, also described as 'wet-chemistry' work.

You must register for the course thru EDGE Learning. The Radioactive Material Protection Guide is available for download.

 

This course is available for CoM-Phx personnel upon request.  Please contact Research Laboratory & Safety Services at (520)626-6850 or rlss-rad-support@email.arizona.edu to schedule training. 

 

Radioactive Material Transporter Training

Radioactive Material Transporter training is required for all individuals who will transport radioactive material, such as sealed sources, seeds, and soil moisture gauges as employees or students at the University of Arizona.Radioactive Material Department of Transportation (DOT) Training

Radiation Generating Machines Protection Course

The Radiation Generating Machines Protection Course is required of all personnel working in research laboratories with machines producing ionizing radiation, which may include x-ray diffraction and fluorescence equipment, cabinet x-ray systems, and Van de Graaff or particle accelerators.

Sealed Source Protection Course 

The Sealed Source Protection Course is required for all research personnel working with encapsulated sources of radioactivity other than Moisture Gauges and the Gamma Irradiator Facility.

Institutional Support Training 

Institutional support personnel that have limited exposure to radiation or have limited access to radiation-restricted areas have a once-only in-service requirement. Each department is responsible for ensuring that untrained personnel do not work in radiation-restricted areas.
