“It Depends”. This is a phrase you may hear often when preparing your budget.
- What costs am I allowed to charge my project?
- What F&A rate should I use?
- Do I use modified total direct costs or total direct cost?
- Can I use a modular budget?
The answer to all of these questions (and many more) is, “It depends”.
It depends on the sponsor, OMB Guidelines, University of Arizona policies, etc. The first step is to carefully read the request for proposal and other sponsor guidelines. If you are unsure of anything in the guidelines, contact the sponsor or Sponsored Projects Services for assistance.
