New Radiation Worker

Training

Workers who intend to handle radioactive material (RAM), document RAM inventory, or perform RAM contamination surveys are required to enroll and complete the Radioactive Material Protection Course (RMPC).

The Approval Holder (AH) or Approval Safety Coordinator (ASC) must initiate the process by emailing rlss-rad-support@email.arizona.edu with the following information:

  • Worker’s legal name
  • Official work email address
  • Approval Name and Number

The worker, AH and ASC will be notified of their status throughout the process.

Pregnancy

Research Safety for Pregnant Workers 

Research Laboratory & Safety Services provides pregnancy counseling for radiation workers. This is a voluntary program available to all University of Arizona personnel.

Counseling is provided for radiation workers who are pregnant, suspect they may be pregnant, or who are planning a pregnancy. The counseling appointment will include a review of the work situation, an evaluation of monitoring requirements, and a discussion of the risks of radiation exposure during pregnancy. Formal declaration of one's pregnancy is voluntary and may be made following counseling.
