For Fall 2021, UArizona faculty, postdoc, research staff, and graduate students are welcome and encouraged to register for the monthly Zoom ICG Meeting.
The October 20, 2021 ICG Meeting will feature a panel of UArizona researchers from the Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health discussing Global Health. Panel speakers include:
- Dr. Gabriela Valdez, Assistant Professor in the Health Promotion Sciences Department, Director of Global Education and Program Director of Global Health: Dr. Valdez will be speaking about the vision and mission of the Global Health Institute and different initiatives to facilitate international collaborations.
- Dr. Aminata Kilungo, Assistant Professor in the Community, Environment & Policy Department: Dr. Kilungo works with communities in Arizona including the Arizona-Sonora Border region, and in Sub-Saharan Africa on issues related to water security and safety, and environmental health. Her work in Sub-Saharan Africa focuses on finding sustainable holistic approaches to address issues related to water and health, specifically to address waterborne and water related diseases.
- Dr. Halima Alaofe, Assistant Professor in the Health Promotion Sciences Department: Dr. Alaofè’s research focus is on maternal, adolescent and child nutrition with a special emphasis on assessment of dietary and nutritional risk factors for malnutrition. - Dr. Kacey Ernst Professor in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department and Program Director of Epidemiology: Dr. Ernst’s primary projects examine the environmental determinants of vector-borne disease transmission and control; primarily dengue and malaria. Current research projects include an examination of insecticide treated bednet use in western Kenya. Comparisons between determinants of use and effectiveness in highland and lowland areas are underway. She is also working with investigators in entomology to examine the role of Ae. aegypti population dynamics in the potential expansion of dengue from northern Mexico to southern Arizona under climate change scenarios.
