Exposure and Injury Guidance

In the event of an exposure, suspected exposure or injury while working with biological, chemical, radioactive materials or radiation producing devices (including exposure to non-ionizing radiation sources, such as lasers), please follow the reporting guidelines below.

In case of medical emergency (for example, suspected or actual hazardous chemical exposure, biological pathogen exposure, experiencing pain, or if medical attention is necessary to evaluate or treat a wound), the employee should:

  • Call UAPD at 621-8273 or 911 immediately.
  • Seek evaluation and treatment at the closest Emergency Department (likely Banner UMC).
  • Notify supervisor and RLSS at 626-6850 immediately (within 8 hours).
  • Supervisor to report the injury to Risk Management Services (RMS) via the online portal as soon as possible (within 8 hours).

If the exposure or suspected exposure has not caused pain, impairment, or required medical treatment beyond first aid, but still warrants medical evaluation or treatment:

  • Notify supervisor and RLSS at 626-6850 immediately (within 8 hours).
  • Supervisor to report the injury to Risk Management Services (RMS) via the online portal as soon as possible (within 8 hours).
