Award

The University Distinguished Professors award honors faculty who have made sustained contributions of consistent educational excellence and have demonstrated outstanding commitment to undergraduate education. The Call for Nominations is issued annually in mid-September.

Certificates awarded to two outstanding graduate students annually (by faculty nomination).

An annual cash award for outstanding work by a Classics graduate student in Latin courses (by faculty nomination).

An annual cash award for outstanding work by a Classics graduate student in Greek courses (by faculty nomination).

The University Distinguished Outreach Faculty award recognizes faculty who have made outstanding contributions to outreach at the University of Arizona, in the State of Arizona and the nation. The Call for Nominations is issued annually in mid-September.

The Distinguished Scholar awards are granted to three outstanding recently tenured and mid-career faculty who are making transformative contributions to their disciplines and to our University’s teaching, research, and outreach priorities. The Call for Nominations is issued annually in mid-September.

An annual cash award to support the Latin teaching pursuits of a graduate student in the Department of Classics (by faculty nomination).

An annual cash award for the best M.A. thesis in the Department of Classics (by faculty nomination).

Each year, during Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, the GPSC recognizes graduate and professional students, staff, and faculty that have made outstanding contributions to the campus and, in particular, to graduate education. Candidates for these awards are nominated by UA Faculty, staff or Graduate/Professional Students, unless otherwise specified. Winners and runners-up in each of the award categories are honored at the annual GPSC's Achievement Awards event.

The Cynthia White Travel and Study in Italy Award will be given each year to a student pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in the Department of Classics at the University of Arizona. Awards shall be made to students participating in academic travel in Italy and/or study abroad programs in Italy. For more information, contact Professor White at ckwhite@email.arizona.edu.
