Graduate Student

The Bart J. Bok Fellowship for Advanced Study in Astronomy and Astrophysics was created in honor of Bart J. Bok, director of Steward Observatory from 1966 through 1970. This three-year Fellowship provides an opportunity for an exceptionally talented recent PhD recipient to pursue a program of research in any area of theoretical or observational astronomy or astrophysics. The full facilities of the Observatory are available to the Fellow, who is encouraged to pursue both independent research and collaborative work with Observatory staff members.

Undergraduate and Graduate students at any college or university in Arizona are eligible to submit a research paper for this award. Submissions should focus on water issues that affect Central and Southern Arizona and/or the Colorado River.

The GPSC supports professional development initiatives of graduate and professional students through Professional Opportunity Development Funding. Such initiatives and events include, but are not necessarily limited to academic seminars, conferences, meetings with industry representatives, etc.

Applications must be submitted by at least three graduate/professional students.

Carson Graduate Scholarships support outstanding University of Arizona graduate students and their research. The scholarships are awarded through a competitive process to current UA students who are committed to interdisciplinary research on environment and society and science communication.

Since 1987 the Center has offered a paid internship to qualified University of Arizona graduate students. This opportunity allows students to experience a wide variety of museum and archive activities and to gain experience working at the Center for Creative Photography.

Certificates awarded to two outstanding graduate students annually (by faculty nomination).

Awards up to $5,000 to support research at the Center for Creative Photography by curators, writers, and researchers investigating the life and work of Kenneth J. Botto; photographers working to incorporate set-up, collage, or constructed imagery; or photographers whose work is a critical comment on political, social, and/or art historical issues in society.

Awards up to $5,000 to support research into the art and career of Josef Breitenbach (1896-1984) and as his work and archive relates to other works and archives in the Center's collections.

An annual cash award for outstanding work by a Classics graduate student in Latin courses (by faculty nomination).

An annual cash award for outstanding work by a Classics graduate student in Greek courses (by faculty nomination).
