State, City and Local Funding Sources

The following State, City, or Local agencies or departments may provide funding opportunities for UA researchers:

  • Arizona Biomedical Research Commission - Committed to enhancing and futhering bioscience and clinical research in Arizona, the ABRC provides funding to help better understand diseases and work towards finding treatments and cures.
  • Arizona Commerce Authority - Arizona's economic development organization with a mission to grow and strengthen Arizona's economy.
  • Arizona Early Childhood Development and Health Board - Administers Arizona's First Things First grants, which provides funding to address the specific development and health needs for children from birth through age five, and their families.
  • Tech Launch Arizona - Assists UA researchers to move inventions, technologies, and intellectual property from the laboratory into the marketplace.

Arizona based Foundations:

  • Flinn Foundation - The Flinn Foundation is a privately endowed, philanthropic grantmaking organization established in 1965 to improve the quality of life in Arizona to benefit future generations. The Foundation supports the advancement of the biosciences in Arizona as well as arts and culture in Arizona.
  • Science Foundation Arizona - Established in 2006, SFAz is a public/private non-profit organization to diversify and strengthen Arizona's economy by: investing in scientific and engineering areas of greatest economic importance to Arizona, facilitate strategic collaborations between Arizona research institutions and industry, support effective education in STEM, and attract and retain world-class jobs and talent.
  • Bisgrove Scholars Program (Part of Science Foundation Arizona) - Established to attract and retain exceptional individuals who have demonstrated substantial achievement and possess the potential to transform ideas into great value for society.
