UA may submit more than one application.

There is no restriction on the number of applications an institution can submit to the SIG and/or High-End Instrumentation (HEI) Programs each year, provided the applications request different types of equipment. To prevent duplication of applications, this opportunity is Institutionally Coordinated by RII/UAHS.

The High-End Instrumentation (HEI) Grant Program encourages applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase or upgrade a single item of high-end, specialized, commercially available instruments or integrated systems. The minimum award is $600,001. There is no maximum price limit for the instrument; however, the maximum award is $2,000,000. Instruments supported include, but are not limited to, X-ray diffractometers, high throughput robotic screening systems, mass spectrometers, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, DNA and protein sequencers, biosensors, electron and light microscopes, flow cytometers, and biomedical imagers.

2022 Clinical and Applied Research Strategies for the Prevention and Control of Fungal Diseases

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to conduct high quality clinical and applied fungal public health research activities to improve fungal public health outcomes in the United States and territories. Projects may be quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods epidemiological studies, laboratory-based studies, or other types of research projects focusing on:
a) Improving the understanding of fungal disease epidemiology;
b) Optimizing the diagnosis and treatment of patients with fungal diseases;
c) Understanding the impact of public health interventions to mitigate the impact of fungal diseases.

2022 Optimization and Standardization of Methods to Suppress Ixodes scapularis and Disrupt Enzootic Pathogen Transmission in Settings Posing an Elevated Risk to Humans

This NOFO intends to support research to: 1) optimize and standardize implementation of existing strategies to reduce the abundance of host-seeking Ixodes scapularis nymphs infected with human pathogens, especially Lyme disease spirochetes (DIN); 2) evaluate efficacy and reproducibility of operational use (e.g., in the hands of pest control professionals or the public, as appropriate) of these protocols in high-risk settings (e.g., wooded residential properties, high-use wooded recreational areas) across the Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic United States where baseline DIN is elevated; and 3) develop standard operating procedures that may be used by homeowners or vector control professionals to implement these interventions within communities at risk for exposure to Lyme disease spirochetes and other I. scapularis-borne pathogens.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is accepting applications for the fiscal year (FY) 2022 Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention-Mobile Health Training Program (NEPQR-MHTP). The purpose of this program is to strengthen the nursing workforce through education and training to provide culturally aligned quality care in rural and underserved areas and training of diverse nursing students to address and manage Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) factors and improve health equity and health literacy of vulnerable populations in rural and underserved communities through nurse-led mobile health training sites. The NEPQR-MHTP will create and expand experiential learning opportunities for nursing students, including: the provision of high-quality culturally sensitive care, identify and understand SDOH in local communities, engagement in critical thinking, and clinical practice highlighting a collaborative team approach to care.

The Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award is intended to identify the most talented Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) who intend to make a long-term commitment to research in the Environmental Health Sciences and assist them in launching an innovative research program focused on understanding the effects of environmental exposure on people’s health.

The purpose of the NCI Pathway to Independence Award for Outstanding Early Stage Postdoctoral Researchers (K99/R00) program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NCI-supported, independent investigators. This program is designed for postdoctoral fellows with research and/or clinical doctoral degrees who do not require an extended period of mentored research training beyond their doctoral degrees. The objective of this award is to facilitate a timely transition of these fellows from their mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent tenure-track (or equivalent) faculty positions. The program will provide independent NCI research support during this transition to help awardees to launch competitive, independent research careers. Researchers in the scientific areas of data science and cancer control science are especially encouraged to apply.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for Silvio O. Conte Digestive Diseases Research Core Centers (DDRCCs). The DDRCCs are part of an integrated program of digestive and liver diseases research support provided by the NIDDK.  The purpose of this Centers program is to bring together basic and clinical investigators as a means to enhance communication, collaboration, and effectiveness of ongoing research related to digestive and/or liver diseases within the NIDDK's mission.  DDRCCs are based on the core concept, whereby shared resources aimed at fostering productivity, synergy, and new research ideas among the funded investigators are supported in a cost-effective manner.  Each proposed DDRCC must be organized around a central theme that reflects the focus of the digestive or liver diseases research of the Center members. The central theme must be within the primary mission of the NIDDK, and not thematic areas for which other NIH Institutes or Centers are considered the primary source of NIH funding.

Regional Public Health Training Centers (PHTC) Program

The Regional PHTC Program seeks to increase the number of individuals in the public health workforce, enhance the quality of such workforce, and improve the ability of this workforce to meet national, state, and local health care needs. Specifically, this program aims to strengthen the public health workforce through tailored training and technical assistance (TA)1 through collaborative community-based projects. Training curricula will provide skill-based, interactive instruction and quality education using multiple modalities (e.g., synchronous, asynchronous, distance-based, bi-directional video, and in-person), underscoring the current eight cross-cutting core public health competency domains in the primary areas of (1) analytical/assessment, (2) policy development/ program planning, (3) communication skills, (4) cultural competency, (5) community dimension of practice, (6) public health sciences, (7) financial planning and management and, (8) leadership and systems thinking.2 Each Regional PHTC must develop training in at least three primary areas listed above and may develop trainings in the sub competencies3 and beyond based on local health needs assessments. Regional PHTCs seek to develop current and future public health leaders though Leadership Institutes. Moreover, the program aims to establish and enhance collaborative partnerships among state and local health departments, primary care providers, and related organizations (to include non-traditional partners) as they work together to address critical local public health needs.
