These resources provide strategic advice, practical tips and other information to aid in writing different types of proposals. Preparation is key to writing a successful proposal. Successful investigators often develop an overall research plan that allows them to act on (and make) opportunities for extramural funding.
Quick Tips
- Match the funding source for your goals & objectives
- Follow the submission guidelines and recommended structure of the proposal
- Set and follow a reasonable timeline based on the deadline; don't forget that UA's Sponsored Projects & Contracting Services must receive the proposals in final form (completely finished and ready for submission to the sponsoring agency) three business days prior to the sponsor's due date
- Talk to the program officer – they are there to help
- Organize your proposal and use concise, persuasive writing - proposal writing differs from authoring journal articles
- Ask colleagues to read your proposal and provide critical comments
- If your proposal is not funded, carefully read the reviewer comments, and try again
- Contact Research Development Services for consultation and assistance
