The following research compliance programs provide training and support to help University of Arizona researchers comply with and navigate the various federal, state, and local regulations that govern research conduct. The particular kinds of training you need will depend on what kind of research you do and your specific role in the research process. Office for Responsible Outside Interests
Export Control Program
Training is required for all UA employees working on an export controlled project. Training must be completed prior to the start of the project. For additional details visit Export Control Training or contact the Export Control Program.
HIPAA - Privacy Program
Training is required for individuals who use or disclose Protected Health Information (PHI). For additional details, please visit Health Information Privacy & HIPAA Training or contact the HIPAA-Privacy Program.
Human Subjects Protection Program (HSPP)
All members of a research team are required to complete training to conduct human subjects research. Training is required prior to submission to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), before IRB approval will be granted, and/or before new personnel may begin work on a human research protocol. Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Program
Prior to the start of any animal activity, training and certification are required for anyone using animals for research or teaching purposes. For specific training requirements, see IACUC Training & Certification or contact the IACUC Office.
Research Laboratory & Safety Services
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Program
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training is mandatory for certain individuals supported by grants from NIH, NSF, and NIFA. However, everyone in the UA research community is encouraged to participate. Encryption Resource Guide
Federal regulations and university policy requires restricted data (e.g. HIPAA, Export Control, etc.) to be encrypted at certain levels depending on the type of data The below resource guide was developed to assist faculty, staff, and students in protecting restricted data. There is a great variety of encryption methods available depending on your computer configuration, this guide does not cover every single method. Please contact the appropriate compliance partner (e.g. Export Control or HIPAA) for guidance on the encrypting level requirements in the regulations.
