Do international affiliations/presentations, etc. that are done without pay have to be disclosed?

Activities that meet the definition of Significant Financial Interest, Significant Personal Interest, Outside Commitment (including Foreign Components), Substantial Interest, Foreign Interest and Institutional Financial Interest need to be disclosed.  Depending on the specific facts, that may include a foreign affiliation or presentation.

Please contact a member of OROI at coi@arizona.edu or 520-624-6406 to assistance.

"If a person asks for permission to engage in an Outside Commitment and it is declined, then what?"

If the Outside Commitment is not approved, the individual cannot engage in the Outside Commitment.

OROI is available to work with college/department approvers to discuss concerns and develop a COC management plan.  More details about the COC review process are available on our COC & COI Review Processes webpage.

"What is research?"

Research and Research Project mean any organized program of scientific inquiry that involves a systematic investigation, study, or experiment designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge that is performed at or under the auspices of the University. Research includes non-sponsored research, research fellowship and training programs, and research-related activities in undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education.

Important Changes to Data Sharing Requirements are Coming for NIH Grants

The NIH’s new Data Management and Sharing Policy will go into effect January 2023. This is an entirely new policy that will apply to all NIH-funded projects that generate scientific data. As a PI on a current NIH award (or an active applicant for NIH funding), we want to make you aware of this coming change and encourage you to begin preparing for it. University Libraries and Research, Innovation & Impact are actively developing resources to support you in this endeavor.
