Asteroids mainly consist of iron, nickel and carbon. Each element is visually represented accompanied by the periodic table symbol.
Asteroids can be compromised of lots of different material. Those with high iron (Fe) and nickel (Ni) content tend to have a higher mass, while carbon-rich (C) asteroids are most commonly found farther away from the Sun.
