Iqbal Hossain, PhD
Iqbal Hossain is the lead data scientist for the University’s Institutional Knowledge Map, or KMAP. The KMAP platform utilizes advanced machine learning (ML) techniques for synthesizing structured and unstructured data such as publications, proposals, bio-sketches, social media and web presence for individuals in an organization, to construct a multi-dimensional institutional collaboration and knowledge graph. Colleges, departments, and researchers can use it to discover experts and collaborations on campus. Hossain earned his PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and completed a postdoc at the Computer Science department at the University of Arizona. His areas of expertise include network analysis and visualization, design and analysis of algorithms, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning (ML).
He published more than two dozen pre-reviewed articles on areas of data science such as computer algorithms, graph theory, network visualization, information retrieval, information visualization, machine learning, natural language processing, database systems, and tools. As a part of his research career, he collaborates with various external groups, students, and researchers at the University of Arizona. He has 16 years of professional experience in research, developing IT systems, managing teams, and innovation.
