NIAID is issuing this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) to highlight the need for research on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). NIAID is particularly interested in projects focusing on viral natural history, pathogenicity, transmission, as well as projects developing medical countermeasures and suitable animal models for pre-clinical testing of vaccines and therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19.

The purpose of this Notice is to inform applicants that the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) will participate, effective immediately, in PA-20-135 "Emergency Competitive Revision to Existing NIH Awards (Emergency Supplement - Clinical Trial Optional)".

The following changes and updates are made to PA-20-135 (shown in italics) to reflect NIBIB participation in this FOA.

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop responsive applications.

One of the 23 NYC Foundations taking part in the NYC Covid-19 Response and Impact Fund, a philanthropic partnership to aid New York nonprofit service providers struggling with the health and economic effects of the pandemic. Nonprofits addressing healthcare and food insecurity as well as arts and culture will be given priority.

LifeArc has made available an initial £10M for the identification of therapeutics that can be rapidly deployed to treat COVID-19. The aim is to run trials in patients during the current epidemic. It is anticipated that applications will be for funding to repurpose one or more drugs that are generic, already licensed, or are in late stage development for another indication.

Offerors may submit a proposal in response to one, or more, of the Research Areas contained herein. Offers submitted in response to this BAA must present separate detailed technical and business proposals designed to meet the Technical Objectives described for each Research Area proposed. The Statement of Work (SOW), including the specific technical requirements and performance specifications, shall be developed and proposed by the Offeror, not the Government.
