Beyond Juneteenth: Getting to Know Black Arizona
The UArizona observance of Juneteenth will go beyond marking this single historic day and will illuminate and celebrate the history of African Americans in the Southwest and the impact Black Americans have had in shaping our state and our region. This year's Beyond Juneteenth program focuses on the theme “Getting to Know Black Arizona.” As part of that theme, we'll be spotlighting the fantastic work of the following Black faculty from across campus with an interesting mix of perspectives:
- Dr. Dawn Demps (Educational Policy Studies and Practice)
- Dr. Jerome Dotson (Africana Studies)
- Dr. Michael Johnson (Immunobiology)
- Dr. Obenewaa Oduro-Opuni (German Studies)
This event is part of a year-long program called Beyond Juneteenth. Dr. Treya Allen and Dr. Tyina Steptoe serve as co-chairs of the Beyond Juneteenth committee. The goal is to promote awareness of the holiday and its significance within the struggle for racial justice in the United States. Registration and Full Details
