For one weekend every March, the University of Arizona campus in Tucson transforms. Amid the booths of bestsellers and the talks by authors, a buzzing Science City rises at the east end of the U of A Mall during the Tucson Festival of Books, inviting visitors of all ages to engage directly with scientists, students and researchers who are shaping the future of our world.
With more than 30 U of A departments and programs participating, Science City offers a hands-on look at the breakthroughs happening right here in the Sonoran Desert. From astrobiology to human kindness to adapting to arid lands and more, Science City bridges the gap between complex research and visitors’ daily lives.
On the Science Stage, author and researcher panels will discuss subjects like the future of space and the body's healing mechanisms, and writers will hold book signings in the Science City Campus Store. The Science Café hosts experts discussing topics that affect daily life and our world. Visitors can take a seat in the shade and enjoy the conversations. The following information maps out six themed “Pathways” to help visitors navigate the exhibits and activities.
